Getting An Appliance Plan For Your Home

Maintenance Tips To Keep Your Appliances Working Properly

Your appliances are something you can usually always count on. Your refrigerator keeps your beverages cold, your dryer always dries your clothing, and your dishwasher cleans your dishes as it should. Just because you haven't experienced a breakdown from these appliances doesn't mean that it isn't going to happen, though. You need to keep your appliances maintained and clean in order for them to keep working as they have been without any issues or problems. See below for some maintenance tips for your refrigerator, dryer, and dishwasher that won't take up too much of your time.

Refrigerator Maintenance

Clean out your refrigerator often to get rid of old food. This not only helps keep you organized, it can help prevent too much food from building up in your refrigerator/freezer and blocking the ventilation system inside. Blocking the vents inside can block airflow, causing your refrigerator to have to work overtime. This can be hard on your refrigerator's fan motor, which can end up breaking down.

Also, clean the dust from below your refrigerator. Take the front panel off at the bottom of your refrigerator and use the hose attachment on your vacuum to vacuum up dust bunnies, pet hair, and other debris. This debris can get caught up in the fan of your refrigerator, which can again make your refrigerator work overtime.

Dryer Maintenance

Clean the dryer vent inside of your dryer before each load of laundry. This not only helps your dryer to work efficiently, it can also prevent fires in your home. The inside vent is only one of the dryer vents, you also need to clean the vent that goes from the back of the dryer to the exterior of your home. Clean this using a long handled appliance brush. Use it outside of your home to pull out lint from the exterior vent, then take the vent pipe off of the back of your dryer. Use the stiff brush to remove as much lint from the pipe as well.

Dishwasher Maintenance

Dishwashers clean the dishes and utensils you eat off of, so you want your dishwasher doing it's job properly.

Clean your dishwasher monthly by adding white vinegar to the detergent bin and then run your dishwasher on the normal cycle. Take it a step further by wiping the entire interior of the dishwasher bin with a vinegar soaked rag. Be sure to wipe down the seals around the door as well. Remove the dishwasher sprayer arms in the bottom to clean out the drain and remove any built-up food particles or other debris. Check those dishwasher sprayer arms to see if any of the spray holes are clogged. If they are, soak them first in a vinegar/water bath to loosen up the particles, then gently use a toothpick to remove it completely.
